Participants in the 2003 Multicultural Youth Leadership Event
(MYLE) made and used prayer stools. Prayer stools are tools to
facilitate a form of silent prayer sometimes called centering
prayer. You can easily learn how to make and use them with a
minimal amount of tools and supplies.
MYLE was the
recipient of a grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans,
which made possible the Prayer Stool Project. Everyone
attending the 2003 MYLE participated in small-group prayer workshops
led by youth from the New Jersey Synod, and then made their
own personal prayer stool to use while in Atlanta and at home.
Youth who had participated in MYLE offered the Prayer Stool
Project to the ELCA Youth Gathering in Atlanta, GA as part
of the Interaction Center program and workshops.
