Applying to volunteer at the
Gathering
Thank you for your interest in serving
as a volunteer at the 2009 ELCA Youth Gathering in New
Orleans, Louisiana! For well over a century, Lutheran youth
have gathered for Bible study, worship, service, learning,
fellowship, and play. These young people have been
accompanied by thousands of caring adults who support their
growth in faith by creating a safe environment in which they
can encounter Christ and each other. It is these dedicated,
faithful volunteers who practice their vocation through the
ministry of the Gathering and make it possible.
Serving the youth of the church is a
vocational calling that requires careful discernment. Every
volunteer who serves at the Gathering must agree to:
- Complete an online application
and reference process
- Submit to a
background check by
the ELCA
- Follow the terms of a
Volunteer
Servant Covenant (code of conduct)
You will be guided through completing
each of the five steps of the online Gathering volunteer
application process. Before you start, you’ll need to know
your congregation’s ID number if you are a member of an ELCA
congregation (found in the 2008 ELCA Yearbook). The
application process is open until all the volunteer
positions or programs are filled. Applications and
references are reviewed by the ELCA Youth Gathering staff,
and you will be notified if you are selected to serve as a
volunteer at the Gathering.
If you have any trouble completing
this online process or require another form of application,
please contact us at the ELCA Youth Gathering office by
e-mailing
gathering@elca.org or calling 1-800-638-3522, ext.
2100.
