Applying
to play in the Gathering House Band
Music moves us in powerful
ways and strengthens our bonds of community. It is a vehicle
for prayer and a way of expressing joy in the presence of
God. We invite you to share your gift of music with
Gathering participants by auditioning for the 2009 ELCA
Youth Gathering House Band. The role of the House Band is to
lead the community in song and support the evening programs
in the Louisiana Superdome.
Under the direction of
Peter Mayer, the House Band includes professional and
non-professional musicians. We are looking for the following
student musicians: percussionists, vocalists, guitar and
bass players, horn players, and keyboard players. To
qualify, you must be entering grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 in the
fall of 2009, or have graduated from high school in 2009.
Those who apply to serve on
the house band must be available to rehearse and perform in
New Orleans July 17-26, 2009. Deadline for applications
is August 1, 2008. Notification of acceptance will be
made before registration opens for the Gathering (September
15, 2008).
To apply, complete the
following application and send an MP3 file, no more than 5
minutes in length, to:
Littleflockmusic@hotmail.com. Submit one or more
selections. They can be brief, but should exhibit your
personal strengths and stylistic versatility.
Questions can be directed to
gathering@elca.org.
This is a volunteer position,
but House Band members will receive complimentary housing,
meals, and ground transportation at the Gathering. Band
members are responsible for their own round trip
