Master of Divinity
Each seminary offers a four-year academic and professional degree
program, including a one year internship, which meets the normal
academic requirements for ordination in the ELCA. A bachelor's degree
from an accredited college or university is normally required for
admission.
Master of Arts /
Master of Theological Studies
These two-year post-baccalaureate programs may be oriented toward
academic and practical preparation for lay ministries in the church or
toward the academic study of theological disciplines. Some seminaries
offer specialized programs in aspects of ministry such as youth and
family, music or Christian education.
Master of Theology /
Master of Sacred Theology
These degree programs build on the Master of Divinity or Master of
Arts programs and provide a fuller mastery of one area or discipline
of theological study.
Doctor of Ministry
ELCA seminaries in all three clusters offer this advanced
professional degree program for pastors and rostered lay leaders who
have completed a first professional degree and have served in ministry
for at least three years.
Doctor of Theology
Three ELCA seminaries offer the Ph.D./Th.D., the most advanced
academic degree. These programs are intended primarily to equip
persons for vocations of teaching and research in theological schools
or for the scholarly enhancement of ministerial practice. |
