A Social Statement on Education


The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is preparing a social statement on education.  Work on the social statement began in 2003. The 2007 Churchwide Assembly, it is anticipated, will consider the proposed social statement.  You are invited to help shape the social statement. This is the place to come to learn about its development and how you can participate.

You and your congregation are invited to study and to comment on this first draft.  Your responses will help the ELCA Task Force on Education shape the proposed social statement.  Please respond before October 15, 2006.  you may respond online:

Get Involved! Hearings on the First Draft


You are invited to participate in synod-sponsored hearings on "Our Calling in Education" that will be held in a number of synods throughout the ELCA. In these hearings a representative of the task force will be present to listen to your concerns and ideas.  A continually updated schedule of hearings is online:
