These gifts will expand our partnership with the New Orleans Recovery Public Schools that serve some of the most at-risk children and youth in the United States (due to poverty and the effects of a natural disaster). The City of New Orleans expects 36,000 young people to be sitting at their desks during the 2009-2010 school year. Half of those children need school supplies. We want to have school supplies sitting on 15,000 of those desks after the Youth Gathering.
