Arts And Culture close

New Orleans is full of artists and musicians. In the 19th century, New Orleans was a thriving seaport that contained a “spicy stew of races and ethnicities,” including Europeans, Africans, Creoles, and others. This great variety gave New Orleans a unique culture and all the ingredients necessary for artists of all mediums to thrive. Since Hurricane Katrina, artists in New Orleans have been struggling. Many lost their homes and their livelihood when stores, galleries, and theaters didn’t reopen. There are people who don’t have life or health insurance or other safety nets. Schools where young artists are nurtured also suffered the loss of art supplies and musical instruments in the post-Katrina floodwaters.
