The Summer Urban Ministry Institute (SUMI) is an annual gathering place for individuals, congregations and faith-based organizations looking for resources in the pursuit of God's call to "seek the welfare of the city."

Now in its third year, the event is an exciting, one-week leadership resource event for congregational leadership teams, comprised of a clergy person and 2-4 lay members. Teams spend time in classroom settings, small group settings, and out in the field learning leadership keys for urban ministry.

They are then sent out with a plan for their own setting to energize and lead their congregations to engage God's purpose for their ministry, to understand their own transformation, and to develop a leadership plan that promotes dialogue and transformative activity with their neighborhood and community.

Next Urban Summit
The next Urban Summit will be held February 16-18, 2005, in Dallas, Texas. It will invite and gather key urban leaders from across the ELCA to strategize and take the next steps for effective mission through being "In the City for Good."
