Mission
Partners, Mission Founders – What's the Difference?While there is some overlap between
the two programs, basically, Mission Founders start
new congregations and Mission Partners support their
growth.

Mission Founders
- Fund all or
a portion of a mission developer's compensation package for
three years $180,000) at a new U.S.
mission site.
- Support the
new ministry with prayer and
encouragement, mentoring, volunteers, or in-kind gifts.
- Donations
are administered by the Evangelical Outreach and Congregational Mission unit or an
agreed-upon local fiscal agent.
- Since 1996,
over $5 million in gifts have been
provided and enabled the start of 108
congregations beyond those started through the budget of the
Evangelical Outreach and Congregational Mission unit.

Mission Partners
- Provide
financial gifts to new and renewing ELCA congregations for
Christian education materials, musicians, publicity items,
rent, office equipment and supplies, sound equipment, and
other necessary items.
- Support the
new ministry with prayer and encouragement, mentoring,
volunteers, or in-kind gifts.
- Donations
may be directed through Mission Partners-Chicago, the
donor's synod office, or may be given directly to the
congregation.
- Over $5
million annually is provided by ELCA congregations to other
ELCA congregations or missions through the Mission Partners
program.
