Bible connection: Ecclesiastes 11:9 CEV

“Be cheerful and enjoy life while you are young!
Do what you want and find pleasure in what
you see, but don’t forget that God will judge you
for everything you do.” (Ecclesiastes 11:9 CEV)

In the middle of his otherwise cynical approach to life’s vagaries, The Preacher – the “narrator” in Ecclesiastes -- offers several reminders that God intends for our lives to be enjoyed fully.  Here the writer extends that invitation to young people, even those facing difficulty and disaster in their lives. The invitation is not to mindless pleasure-seeking, however, because God’s purpose and will are to be served by joyful living. An invitation any of us can accept!
