Pledge of Nonviolence

In 1996 the Families Against Violence Advocacy Network (FAVAN) developed the Family Pledge of Nonviolence.

It was designed to help families–of all shapes and sizes–to live the Gospel daily, faithfully and effectively in the face of escalating violence. FAVAN felt that in living the Pledge, peoples’ lives would become part of the solution to violence.

The Pledge focuses on:

  • respect for self and others
  • effective communication
  • listening skills
  • forgiveness
  • respect for nature
  • creative play
  • courage

There are now seven versions of the Pledge (family, school, congregation, youth, and so forth).

For all seven versions of the Pledge visit http://www.ipj-ppj.org/pledge.html. They are also available in twelve languages.
