Native Nations:
Standing Together for Civil Rights

The American Indian and Alaska Native Ministries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America in cooperation with Communication Services of ELCA and the Native Media and Technology Network produced a one hour documentary on the major social justice events directly related to the history of the National Indian Lutheran Board during its existence from 1970-1988.

This documentary will demonstrate the struggles and social justice issues of the American Indian and Alaska Native. Including healthcare water rights tribal extinction, reservations contaminations, etc.. We will concentrate on the Native American civil rights movement of the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. The program will focus on the national social justice activities which created an environment from which a new relationship was established between the Lutheran Churches and Native Americans. Out of this union the National Indian Lutheran Board (NILB) was formed. We will concentrate on the work NILB has done along with the Joint Strategy and Action Committee (JASC) of the National Council of Churches U.S.A. and other church bodies. The goal of this documentary is to raise awareness and build community between American Indian and Alaska Native culture and other American communities.

This program will air on ABC television network affiliate stations across the country beginning October 12, 2008. Please check here for your local listings.
