I. A Spirit of Invitation: Outreach in Iowa
church traffic wranglerSynopsis: It's tough to find a parking space at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's fastest growing congregation. MOSAIC took its cameras to West Des Moines, Iowa, to find out what has happened to make Lutheran Church of Hope's Sunday worship attendance literally overflow. What we discovered was an incredibly enthusiastic membership that has caught the spirit of "invitation evangelism." Talking with the people showed us what that spirit can do for ministry.

II. The Book of Liturgy and Song
Carmelo Nievs-CaninoSynopsis: In a series of workshops last spring, the ELCA introduced its new Spanish language worship book, Libro de Liturgia y Cántico. The book, developed by Latino theologians, musicians and liturgists, and published by Augsburg Fortress, promises to influence Spanish-speaking Lutheran communities throughout the entire Western Hemisphere. The first ELCA congregation to use Libro de Liturgia y Cántico was Divino Salvador in Cataño, Puerto Rico, and MOSAIC was there to talk with worshipers and synod staff, and to hear some of the book's creators share their enthusiasm.

III. 50 Years of Human Rights
O.F. NoldeSynopsis: This year marks the 50th anniversary of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, sometimes called "a bill of rights for the planet." Lutheran educator O. Frederick Nolde, who was instrumental in shaping the document, was sometimes called "Protestant Christianity's most influential international diplomat" and by fellow Lutherans, "our man in international affairs." In this segment of MOSAIC, Nolde is remembered by those who knew him well and who see in his legacy the impact for more recent ELCA ministry through the Lutheran Office for World Community and the Lutheran Office for Governmental Affairs.
