I. "My Bangladesh," - A Boy Looks at His
Nation
Synopsis: Let
nine-year-old Rockibul Hussain be your guide as MOSAIC takes you to
this country in the
shadow of India. Here where 130 million people live in a land
the size of Wisconsin, the ELCA supports ministries of health care
and economic development. This segment was produced with Sunday
school students of all ages in mind. Rocky’s delightful insight
into his country’s rivers, farms, cities and people will make
learning about Lutheran global ministry in a far-off place
fascinating for young and old alike.
II. The Incredible Hunger-fighting Silkworm
Synopsis: "Here
we go ‘round the Mulberry tree..." to gather leaves to feed
silk worms to spin cocoons that provide livelihoods for some of the
world’s poorest people. The Rangpur Dinajpur Rural Service (RDRS),
an organization funded through the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, has
introduced the ancient Chinese art of sericulture, or silk worm
production, to the Bengali people. Today, Bengali women produce silk
thread in home based and small factory settings, and learn to
produce beautiful silk cloth and garments. As they do, the amazing
silk worm is putting food on their tables..
IIl. Lighting Her Lamp: Hope for Bangladesh
Synopsis:
Lutheran Health Care Bangladesh (LHCB), an ELCA funded health
care and development project, starts with grass roots organizing to
upgrade the health and economic life of the rural poor. From
prenatal care to savings clubs, LHCB aims to make more visible the
important roles women play in developing societies. Here we see the
planting and the promise where a few decades ago none existed; here
we see the vital role women are providing in a patriarchal society.
