Preparing Servant Leaders to Promote Justice and Peace

Preparing For Your Trip - Travel Documents

For everyone:
You will need a valid passport in order to enter Mexico. Mexico does not allow entrance into the country if the holder’s passport expires in fewer than six months. Please ensure that your passport is up to date. Upon arrival, Mexican immigration officials will give you a tourist visa card. Keep this card in your passport, as you will need it in order to leave Mexico. Lock boxes will be available at the Lutheran Center in which you may store your passport and tourist visa card.

If you are a minor:
Mexican law requires that any non-Mexican citizen under the age of 18 must carry a notarized written letter from any parent or guardian not traveling with the child. The letter gives permission for the child to travel to Mexico and must include the name of the parent(s), the name of the child, the name of a supervisory adult traveling with the child, and the notarized signature(s) of the absent parent(s) or guardian(s). The child must be carrying the original letter – not a faxed or scanned copy. Should one parent be inaccessible after a separation or divorce, an original custody decree may substitute for the letter of the absent parent. If one of the child’s parents is deceased, a copy of his or her death certificate may be required as well. Please don’t hesitate to contact us should you have questions or concerns regarding this requirement. Calling or writing your nearest Mexican consulate will also be a helpful source of information.

Be sure to copy all of these important documents and keep them in a separate place than the originals. We suggest that you confirm document regulations with the US Department of State at the following website before your travels. http://www.state.gov/travel/
