Chris Morgan is working on
her 3rd campaign at United Way of Greater Cleveland, a local,
independent nonprofit organization. United Way provides heath
and human services for their community, and works to advance
community-wide priorities and support health and human service
programming for over 130 agencies in their local
counties.
As campaign manager in fundraising, Chris targets individual
donors, communicates with them about their giving, and keeps
them up-to-date on securing their gift for next year.
Chris served on the Lutheran
Youth Organization board for the 2000-2003 term for Region 6,
which includes parts of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky.
She was involved in event planning for fundraisers and kickoffs,
as well as project management. Chris attended Valparaiso
University, IN, majoring in Management and Theology. As a spring
intern in youth ministry at the ELCA offices in Chicago, Chris
understood the difference between corporate and nonprofit
workplaces and found that corporate environments were not for
her. She discovered that there was generally a 3-5 year shelf
life for non-profit employment, because people who do not have a
true passion for the work will not stick around. The benefit of
engaging in LYO and the ELCA offices was that they were
family-oriented and there was not much of a turnover.
Chris participated in United Way
through her high school, and was a drive president, planning
dances and leading fundraising teams. She heard that there was a
temporary position at United Way of Greater Cleveland and is now
working there permanently. Chris says that this is most
certainly her vocation, and she has a large passion for working
with the organization that dedicates itself to making the city
of Cleveland better for its people. By involving herself in LYO
and United Way in high school, she was able to discover her
spiritual gifts of event planning and management, which helped
her find her current vocation of working at United Way of
Greater Cleveland.
