Cambodia - Building a Future
Noun Saroeun, 42, is one of the poorest
farmers in Thmey Village in Cambodia. She has seven children and
worries about not being able to feed her family with the harvest from
her small rice paddy. The family often has had no rice for six months
at a time. (Rice is the staple of most diets in Cambodia.) She has
depended on bamboo and mushrooms from the forest to feed the children.
They became poorer and poorer. The LWF taught Noun new farming
methods. Her crop did well and LWF proposed that Noun might also raise
chickens. She built a proper shelter for her 20 LWF chickens and is no
longer worried about a food shortage. Her children have ample rice,
eggs and chicken, and are in school! Thank you, LWF!
