Week I - Latin America
Her name is Marta and she is six years
old. She lives in war-torn Colombia in an Internally Displaced Persons
camp. Her family fled their home, and a whole way of life when their
village erupted in gunfire. LWF provides Marta and 500 other children
with a healthy meal once a day, medical attention for 1100 families in
the camp, clean drinking water, and seed money for her parents to
begin a small business. Because of you Marta and her family
have hope.
Gracious God, Please place your loving
arms around all children who live in refugee camps. Keep them safe and
well. For the faith and commitment of our brothers and sisters in the
Lutheran Evangelical Church of Colombia we give you thanks. For all
those who live in this camp in Colombia, grant them enough to eat, a
quiet rest, and hope for tomorrow. With gratitude for the work of The
Lutheran World Federation in this camp, we pray in Jesus Name, Amen.
(Financial gifts to the LWF may be
made through the ELCA World Hunger Appeal, the National Church Office
of the ELCIC or
directly to the LWF Regional Office in North America, 8765 West
Higgins Road, Chicago IL 60631.)
