Annotated Bibliography on Homosexuality Available Online

This article appeared in May / June 2004 —  Volume 20, Number 3

The Division for Ministry assembled an annotated bibliography on the topic of Christianity and homosexuality in 2001. The bibliography was prepared in response to a request from the presidents of the ELCA’s seminaries, but the Division for Ministry is solely responsible for the bibliography. It is available on the ELCA Web site by clicking here.

A vast number of publications, both academic and popular, exist on the topic of Christianity and homosexuality. Selections in this bibliography were chosen to guide readers interested in serious theological reflection on Christianity and homosexuality as the ELCA engages in conversations about and study of the topic.

In light of this purpose, the bibliography focuses on theological and related resources as well as materials produced by ELCA and other Lutheran authors. The Lutheran citations include publications and bibliographies that can lead the reader more broadly into topics on church, ministry, and homosexuality not otherwise addressed by this bibliography.

Many of the works listed in all sections of this bibliography also include bibliographies, as described in the annotations, to assist readers interested in further and broader study. Recommendations for additions to the bibliography may be sent to ministry@elca.org

Mark Wilhelm is associate director of Theological Education in the Division for  Ministry, ELCA, Chicago, Illinois.
