Lutheran evangelism work
continues in Guinea
In 2005, The Lutheran Church in Liberia
began extending its mission in the neighboring country of Guinea. During
2006, the Church of Sweden and Danish Evangelical Mission extended
financial support to the church. The DEM donation was used for
construction of a church which in near completion in N’zerekore while
the COS financial contribution was used for pastor and evangelists
support.
Plans are underway through the BMTE to train
two Guinea Nationals in pastoral training to help the only Liberian
Missionary Pastor. Fourteen congregations and preaching points are
established where the Pastor makes frequent visitations.
Sixteen lots of land were given in Koyeama
Town at the cost of USD$1,800 and another six lots in Bossou Town are to
be surveyed. Most of the congregations are prepared to construct their
churches. The LCG has now a primary school in Bossou for the children.
Academic lessons are taught both in English and French.
The members of the LCG began a farming
project last year. Rice was planted and harvested in October. Plans are
underway to begin the planting of rubber this year on the same site.
During the past year, Mr. Louis Douvallier,
ELCA Regional Representative in Senegal donated liturgical materials in
French which is being used in the N’zerekae congregation. There are
needs for more in French, Lorma, Kpelle and Mano and a vehicle for the
church.
Preparations have begun for the construction
of church in Gozoguizia. With the spread of so many congregations there
is a need for trained evangelists. Three are already under training with
the LTB LLMTC in Totota and a deacon. While the LCG is making efforts in
its evangelism drive, the LWF/WS in Guinea does not recognize it as a
partner. The LCG is calling on the LCL and the partners to find ways in
which the two institutions can interact. The LCG is graciously thankful
to the partners and the LCL for their continuous support.
