Administrator David Jones to leave Phebe Hospital

Dear Friends and Partners of Phebe,

I am writing to notify you that I have accepted an offer of reinstatement by my previous employer, the United States Federal government.  I regret that I will be leaving Phebe Hospital and the employment of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) by September 2005.  The ELCA will work with the LCL and Phebe Hospital Board and Medical Director as they plan for the future Administration and management of Phebe Hospital.

I would like to express my gratitude for the opportunity to have served Phebe Hospital and School of Nursing, the Lutheran Church of Liberia and the ELCA.  My decision to accept an offer of employment was not easy and I have thought it about thoroughly.  I am confident that the individuals with whom I have worked will continue to move Phebe forward in the future. I also will be available to help as I can from my duty station in the US.  Your tangible contributions of drugs and supplies, as well as your time and efforts, are evidence of God's Grace and Loving Hand.  I also count your prayers of support and good wishes as that same manifestation upon Phebe.

I have seen Phebe rise as the Phoenix and as a harbinger of Liberian peace.  Within a year of returning to its home site, Phebe has been resurrected both in infrastructure and services.  The School of Nursing soon followed.  Where there were once empty and roofless buildings sheltering only insects and vermin, there is now the dispensing of medical services and education.  This would not have been possible without your support.  That support, so broad and so deep, has greatly heartened me and the entire staff of Phebe.  In fact, the country of Liberia looks upon Phebe's revival as a symbol of hope.

I know that God will continue to bless Phebe and her staff that so diligently labor for the people of Liberia.  The ELCA will remain a steadfast partner with Phebe as I am certain that you will also.  You will be in my prayers and thoughts.
