National Youth Organization

The strong presence of youth is evident in almost all of the ministries of of the LCL, including HIV/AIDS awareness work, trauma healing and reconciliation, gender equity training, peacebuilding efforts, and relief work. Even in the midst of terrible war, youth have continued to gather together across the country for worship, prayer, study, recreation and service. They work among their peers, listening to the stories of those who are traumatized victims, and encouraging the acceptance back into society of young people who were combatants in the war.

With so many youth unable to attend school, LCL youth have started a scholarship fund to provide assistance to those who cannot afford school fees. The scholarship fund is supported by local fundraising efforts, including a newly established internet cafe in Kakata.

During the war, the church’s youth camp was looted and destroyed. Currently, the church is locating a new site for the camp in central Liberia, and funding is being secured from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria to rebuild it as a teen center for the rehabilitation of youth affected by war and a vocational center that would provide skills training.
