ELCA policy for all ELCA staff persons,
including regions and synodsEligibility:

Class I - all officers
and employees of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Class II- all non-salaried board members and
other voluntary representatives of the ELCA.

Class
III - all s elf-employed persons receiving
consulting fees from the ELCA.Class IV
- all m issionaries of the
ELCA and their accompanying sp ouse and/or
dependent child or children under the
age of 19 (under the age of 25 if
classified as a full-time student at an
institution of higher learning).

Class V - all volunteers and other persons of the ELCA not included in
any other class. The following classification of coverage is
provided at an additional charge: all
volunteers and other persons, not included in any other class,
attending ELCA sponsored conventions, conferences, meetings and
activities. This coverage is provided at a charge of .10 cents per
person/per day. All ELCA divisions, departments, and units will be
required to file an annual report and billing will be done at the end
of each calendar year.
All Regions are
covered in Class IV for conventions, conferences, and meetings. The ELCA
Office of the Secretary - Insurance Management
will require an accounting of such events and the number of attendees at
the end of each calendar year. Coverage for special events such as Youth
Gatherings, hunger walks, etc. are included but the Office of the
Secretary - Insurance Management must be
advised so that the insurance carrier is informed of this type of event.
Synods may elect
Class IV coverage also. This is an optional coverage in which each synod
may choose to participate. Reporting and billing is done at the end of
each calendar year. Coverage for special events such as synod
conventions, youth gatherings, hunger walks, etc. which include large
numbers of attendees/delegates must be reported to the Office of the
Secretary - Insurance Management so that the
Insurance Carrier is advised.
Benefits:
Accidental Death &
Dismemberment - accidental medical expense is included in Class IV only.
Excess Accidental Medical
Expense - provides an accidental medical expense benefit of up to
$10,000 for individuals covered under Class V. Payments are excess of
any other insurance or payments for Medical Services.
Medical
E vacuation and R epatriation -
provides a benefit of up to $5 0 ,000
if an insured requires medical evacuation and/or repatriation .
The medical evacuation and/or repatriation must be approved by both a
physician and the Assistance Services Administrator. Applicable to all
classes .
Permanent Total Disability ‑ provides a
benefit of $500 per month for up to 100 months
if an insured suffers a permanent total disability as a
result of a covered accident. Applicable to all classes.
Loss of Use ‑ provides a benefit if an
insured suffers loss of use of an arm, leg,
hand, foot or any combination thereof as a result of a covered
accident. Applicable to all classes.
Seat Belt ‑ provides an additional benefit
of 10% of the Principal Sum to a maximum of
$50,000 if an insured dies as a result of a motor vehicle
accident and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Applicable to all classes.
Class I ,
II , III and V
‑ coverage for loss caused by or resulting from
Accidental Bodily Injuries sustained as a result of an act of
violence which occurs on the
premises of the ELCA.
Principal Sums Applicable:
- Class I - 5 times salary
to a maximum amount of $400,000.

Description of Hazards
Class I, II, III,
and V: 24 hour all risk insurance while traveling on ELCA business
away from the premises of the ELCA and while traveling to, from and
during any activity sponsored or supervised by the ELCA.
Class I V - Business and
pleasure 24 hour all-risk insurance.
Class I, II, III and IV -
Felonious assault for all acts of violence
on the ELCA premises.
Limits of Liability:
Accidents - $3,000,000 aggregate
total per accident.
