ELCA Insurance > ELCA Insurance Program for
Congregations Under Development
All congregations under
development, including synodically authorized worshiping communities,
under the auspices of the ELCA Division for Outreach are provided
insurance coverage under the ELCA Mission Investment Fund Insurance
Program.
This insurance provides
commercial liability coverage and personal property coverage for
each congregation as long as the congregation is worshiping in a rented
or leased facility. This insurance does not provide insurance
coverage for real estate property, directors and officers liability, or
workers compensation coverage. It is suggested that the congregation
review these areas of insurance coverage with their local insurance
broker.

This insurance coverage is
available to all mission congregations until such time as the
congregation assume occupancy of their own church building. Once a
congregation acquires ownership of their worship facility they are no
longer covered under the ELCA Mission Investment Fund program and must obtain
their own insurance coverage.
