The ELCA World Hunger Appeal receives no
money from the general benevolence funds of the ELCA. All
income for the World Hunger Appeal comes from specially
designated offerings and gifts from ELCA members and
congregations.

For every dollar given to the World
Hunger Appeal this year, just under 72 cents supports relief of
chronic hunger and poverty and development of communities around
the world. About 10 cents is spent on relief and
development for chronic hunger and poverty in the United States.
Efforts to educate ELCA members about hunger issues and advocacy
receive just over 10 cents, and less than 8 cents goes to
administration and fund-raising expenses in the Chicago-based
office.
A large portion of money
raised by the World Hunger Appeal supports the core budgets
of two key partner organizations, Lutheran World Relief and the
Lutheran World Federation. This helps ensure that they can
make and keep commitments to long-term projects as well as respond
quickly when emergencies occur.
