This foundational document was
originally adopted at the May 1987 ELCA Constituting
Convention. It gives historical background about the
creation of the ELCA World Hunger Program. Please note
that the "ELCA World Hunger Program" is the same entity as
"ELCA World Hunger." Throughout this Web site, you will
encounter "ELCA World Hunger" most frequently. ELCA
World Hunger "Appeal" refers to the fund-raising arm of ELCA
World Hunger and generally is used concerning donations.
The document has three sections:
1) The original constitutional language that mandated the
creation of the ELCA World Hunger Program, 2) "Guidelines for
ELCA Hunger Program Activities," which expands upon the
original five objectives (in the first section), and 3)
"Principles and Assumptions" that give further considerations
for the ELCA's work with people who are hungry.
