How far can your money go?

The charts below provide comparisons of what certain dollar amounts could buy for a resident of the United States vs. someone in need in another country.  You'll also find examples of what your gifts to the World Hunger Appeal provide.  Please do not designate your gift to any specific item as it would be too costly to administer.

Quarters Save Lives!

Number of quarters Amount Someone in need
1-2 25-50 cents Food for a baby in a refugee camp in Tanzania or Angola
4 $1 "Daily bread" for an orphan in Zimbabwe or Malawi
40 $10 A small grove of trees to protect the soil from erosion in Zambia
400 $100 Cashew trees in a school garden in Mozambique
1,000 $250 A pair of barnyard goats in Uganda
2,000 $500 A high-yielding cow in Kenya
20,000 $5,000 A month's support for an irrigation project in Ethiopia

This chart is featured in the "Quarters Save Lives" bulletin insert for congregation use, a four-color insert that gives these real-life examples of what multiples of 25 cents, from one quarter to thousands, can do to help people through the ELCA World Hunger Appeal.  It also explains in practical terms how donations fight hunger.

To order copies of this bulletin insert (free in packages of 50), you may order online or call Augsburg Fortress at 1.800.328.4648 and use item number (ISBN) 978-6-0001-6662-5.
