Sign up to help us "win" against world
hunger:
- Sign up by supporting one of the
NFL teams.
- Each week if your team wins, you
give a quarter to the "Quarterback Club" jar in the narthex.
- For each touchdown pass thrown by
your team's quarterback (win or lose), you give a quarter to
the "Quarterback Club" jar in the narthex.
- At the end of the regular season,
the NFL team which helped accumulate the most quarters either
by wins or touchdowns will "receive" a quarter in the
"Quarterback Club" jar from each person supporting other NFL
teams.
Money raised will be given to the ELCA
World Hunger Appeal as a contribution from St. John Lutheran
Church!
Members of the Luther League will
maintain the "stats" each week and will post and print in the
bulletin each week the amount due for each team based on wins
and touchdown passes.
NOTES:
The sign-up sheet to join the club was an insert in the worship
bulletin. It provided a list of NFL teams and asked members to
choose the team (or teams) they wanted to support that season.
They were then asked to write their names on the insert and
place it in the offering plate.
John A. Clausen, pastor, wrote: "We
have people checking our chart both prior to and following
worship and Sunday school and placing their donations in a large
jar provided. Along with petitions in our prayers each week, the
issue of world hunger is now-at least for the football
season-before the congregation weekly! We anticipate a nice
season-end donation!" |
