Donating Proceeds

Below are examples of creative ways that people have donated all or a portion of the proceeds from a special event, sale, or item to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal.  What are you good at?  What do you like to do?  Think of creative ways you, too, can help hungry people while doing something you love.  Send an e-mail with details of your special fundraiser to hunger@elca.org and let us know what you did.

  • Robert Hendrickson, Shickley, NE, sold 1,000 bushels of corn worth $2,894 and sent the proceeds to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal. He is a member of Stockholm Lutheran Church in Shickley.

  • Terry R. Morehouse, associate pastor of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, MN, gave some of the proceeds from a book he published to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal.

  • Tim Hansen, a musician and pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Litchfield, MN, donated the offerings he received at a concert he performed in fall 2000 and all proceeds from the sale of his “Lutheran Jell-O” CD.

  • Royalties from sales of "Morning by Morning: Daily Meditations from the Writing of Marva J. Dawn" will be used to help people and communities affected by the AIDS crisis in Africa. Dawn has asked that her royalties be directed to Stand With Africa: A Campaign of Hope.

  • Kyros, the group that led the music for worship at the 1999 ELCA Global Mission Events, donated one dollar from the sale of the first 1,000 copies of their CD "Living in Kyros: The Global Church Sings, Vol. 2." The CD is available from Amazon.com for $14.95 plus shipping.

  • John and Marlene Hyden, Tonawanda, NY, both in their mid-60s,  paddled 338 miles down the Erie Canal over a two week span to raise money for the ELCA World Hunger Appeal.  They raised close to $5,000.  Way to go!

  • A Bunch of Guys, a New England musical group, donated profits from their "Take a Breath" CD to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal.
