Application, Evaluation and Deployment Process
For Volunteers serving with ELCA Global Mission in year long positions
Volunteer Mission Personnel are responsible for the
cost of their airfare to and from their country of service and for their personal expenses while in service.
Housing and utility costs may also be the responsibility of the volunteer
depending on the location.
The ELCA provides insurance for volunteer mission
personnel while in service, as well as any costs for visas or work permits as
required.
- Candidate submits application by
March 15.
- ELCA Global Mission staff requests
recommendations
- ELCA Global Mission staff reviews
application, recommendations and gets to know candidate
- Candidate comes to ELCA Global
Mission office in Chicago for a day of interview and mutual
discernment
- ELCA Global Mission staff meets
after the interview/discernment day to decide if a position will
be offered
- ELCA Global Mission staff contact
candidate to share if the position will be offered.
- Candidate who is offered a
position responds in writing to accept or decline the position.
- ELCA Global Mission Staff conducts
background check for newly appointed mission personnel.
- Newly appointed mission person
works with ELCA Global Mission staff to complete necessary
documents and other pre-service procedures.
- New volunteer mission personnel
are invited to attend the ELCA and ecumenical orientation in the
Chicago area during the month of July. If they come,
transportation, food and lodging will be paid by ELCA Global
Mission
- New mission personnel depart for
service
