Application, Evaluation and Deployment Process
For Volunteer Teachers in Slovakia
Volunteer teachers in Slovakia are responsible for the
cost of their airfare to and from Slovakia and for their personal expenses while
in service.
The ELCA provides insurance for volunteer teachers while
in service as well as any costs for visas or work permits as required.
The school in Slovakia provides furnished housing and a modest stipend.
- Candidate submits application by March 15.
- ELCA Global Mission staff requests recommendations
- ELCA Global Mission staff reviews application,
recommendations and gets to know candidate
- Candidate comes to ELCA Global Mission office in
Chicago for a day of interview and mutual discernment
- ELCA Global Mission staff meets after the
interview/discernment day to decide if a position will be offered. (A
particular site in Slovakia may not be decided until all of the volunteer
teachers have been identified for the upcoming school year.)
- ELCA Global Mission staff contact candidate to share if
the position will be offered.
- Candidate who is offered a position responds in
writing to accept or decline the position.
- ELCA Global Mission Staff conducts background check for
newly appointed teacher
- Newly appointed teacher works with ELCA Global Mission staff to complete necessary
documents and other pre-service procedures.
- ELCA Global Mission staff will communicate with new
teacher their school assignment.
- New teacher departs for Slovakia to attend in country
orientation in mid-August with other new teachers. From orientation new teachers travel to their
school.
