Application, Evaluation and Deployment Process
For Japan Program (J-3) Personnel
- Candidate submits application by March 15.
- ELCA Global Mission staff requests recommendations
- ELCA Global Mission staff reviews application,
recommendations and gets to know candidate
- Candidate comes to ELCA Global Mission office in
Chicago for a day of interview and mutual discernment
- ELCA Global Mission staff meets after the
interview/discernment day to decide if there is a match and if a position will
be offered.
- ELCA Global Mission staff contact candidate to share if
the position will be offered.
- Candidates who are offered a position respond in
writing to accept or decline the position.
- ELCA Global Mission Staff conducts background check for
newly appointed mission personnel
- ELCA Global Mission Staff works with candidate to
arrange a psychological evaluation
- Newly appointed mission personnel is in deployment
(preparation for departure) and works with ELCA Global Mission staff to
complete necessary documents.
- Orientation and ESL instruction for new mission
personnel in Chicago area for the month of July.
- Depart for service in late summer or early autumn
(August or September).
- First six months of service are Japanese language study
and in country orientation in Japan.
