Who We Are Welcome! ELCA Global Mission is the channel through which the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) expresses itself in mission throughout the world. It sees itself to be an interdependent part of the whole church's mission in the world. With this, ELCA Global Mission engages the members and resources of the ELCA in mission around the world through involvement in evangelism, witness, education, promotion of justice, service, relief and development. More specifically, ELCA Global Mission: Has established relationships and works in cooperation with more than eighty Lutheran and other Christian churches, as well as relating with numerous agencies and institutions around the world. An extension of these relationships directly ties ELCA synods with some of these churches through the Companion Synod Program. Recruits, calls, prepares and sends missionary personnel. Assists in meeting the critical needs of people throughout the world through the World Hunger Program and International Disaster Response, as well as assisting with the promotion of sustainable development to meet ongoing needs. Engages members of the ELCA in better understanding and supporting God's mission throughout the world through education and resources.
