Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem, which has been ministering to the
Palestinian society for over 140 years through an active congregation and
school, has broken ground for a new school. This Model
School will equip 400 Palestinian youth each year to face the
challenges of the 21st Century. Under the umbrella of the Dar al Kalima
("House of the Word") Project, which seeks holistic and
innovative education, and the International
Center of Bethlehem, this model school will be the first of its kind
in Palestinian society.
The
overall goal of the Model School is to help improve the future of the
Palestinian people by developing their skills. The school is a reflection
of Christian witness and ministry to the individual and society by
providing for their physical, spiritual, social, and emotional needs.
The Bethlehem Lutheran Model School aims
to provide a new and innovative education system that will develop the
individual holistically. This is not only through academic excellence, but
by also developing leadership skills, creativity, imagination,
communication skills, environmental awareness, cultural and religious
tolerance, and Christian values. The first phase of the Lutheran Model
School was dedicated on Aug. 15, 2000, at the top of a beautiful hill in
Bethlehem.
Much crucial funding for basic
construction has already been provided by several sources. Your help for
this "school of the future" is needed as more classrooms are
added.
