  Who Is Jesus?

Let’s look at what the witnesses say about Jesus.

Some say he was a prophet – one who brought a challenging message calling people to turn back to God.

Some say he was a great teacher – one who spoke timeless truths about human beings and about God.

Some say he was a religious healer – one who performed miraculous acts which brought health and wholeness to suffering people.

Who is Jesus?
Jesus was – and is – all these, and more. Those witnesses of Jesus who are his followers begin with another word to describe him – Savior. And that is what makes Jesus unique ... and what makes the experience and story of Jesus life-changing.

The followers of Jesus point to the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection (his rising from death) as the saving Good News. We are saved from having to rely on ourselves and our own meager actions to be in a right relationship with the creator of the world. We are saved from having to rely on ourselves to face death – our own and those we love. Jesus has faced our failures and our death head-on. And through his own death and rising from death, he has given us life and hope, even in the most difficult and hopeless events of life.

Because of what Jesus has done and who Jesus is, his followers also speak of him with another word – Lord. They try to live in his footsteps, love as he loved, give as he gave, and be a light leading others to the saving good news of his death and resurrection.

This saving good news makes all the difference in the world. And it is news the followers of Jesus want to share with the world as witnesses – in their homes, their neighborhoods, their jobs, their schools, and to the ends of the earth!
