This position coordinates and performs
secretarial and administrative work to support the director and the
assistant director for ELCA Domestic Disaster Response, including
the coordination of granting programs, fiscal accounts, and the
Domestic Disaster Response Web page; performs related work as
required. Work involves a variety of situations and tasks.
General supervision is received from assigned supervisory personnel.
- Functions as assistant to the Director
and the Assistant Director for ELCA Domestic Disaster Response in
planning, coordinating and implementing services, projects and
events
- Answers inquiries regarding policies or
procedures by providing information requiring interpretations and
familiarity with unit’s operations; screens telephone calls,
letters, and visitors
- Coordinates ELCA DDR/LDR granting
programs; tracks disbursements, quarterly and annual reports, and
disseminates information pertaining to grant programs
- Prepares and submits check requests for
the Office of the Treasurer
- Edits and posts information to the ELCA
Domestic Disaster Response Web page
- Uses a variety of word processing,
spreadsheet and communication packages
- Compiles data for special studies,
annual reports and other purposes using prescribed sources
- Composes original letters and assists
in the preparation of resource materials and annual reports
- Assists director and assistant director
in administrative program solving, and promotes the dissemination
of accurate information in times of disaster
- Receives, sorts, distributes and
reviews mail, independently attaching relevant file(s) and
responding to basic mail requests either verbally or in writing;
manages distribution of resources to affiliates
- Supports the work of the unit and
Churchwide organization by meeting work deadlines and procedures
required for effective and efficient operations, by timely
response to stakeholders, and by preparation for and participation
in unit staff meetings
- Performs other duties as required
While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see. Arms, hands
and fingers will be needed to reach and operate a computer keyboard
and touch-tone telephone. Extensive sitting is required. Employee
will occasionally need to lift boxes or materials up to 20 pounds.

1. A minimum of three years of experience in
general office work which required skilled typing and computer
proficiency; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
2. Considerable knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and
arithmetic; general accounting skills desirable
3. Considerable knowledge of current office practices, procedures
and equipment
4. Some knowledge of churchwide and unit policies and procedures is
preferred
5. Demonstrated skill in operating a personal computer and
applicable software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PageMaker
6. Ability to work effectively and collegially with a variety of
personnel
7. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently
8. Demonstrated skill in typing accurately from plain copy or rough
draft
9. Ability to apply acquired knowledge of procedures and services
applicable to the unit
10. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
11. Bi-lingual, Spanish/English preferred.
