National Workshop on Christian Unity (NWCU) In 1963 an innovating group of Roman Catholics envisioned a conference model that would equip local and regional leaders for the task of ecumenical ministry. By 1969, this vision grew to include others in the Christian communion. Today, after 42 years, the National Workshop on Christian Unity offers both denominational and ecumenical sessions throughout the workshop, provides seminars toward Christian unity, encourages denominational networking for shared ecumenical aims, addresses pressing ecumenical questions of the moment, and offers a forum for the reflection upon, and celebration of, unity that is already shaping current church bodies. ELCA seminarians have an opportunity to participate at the NWCU. We host the Annual Seminary Essay Contest on a topic relevant to "Pray without Ceasing". All ELCA Seminarians are encouraged to write an essay. The winning essayist receives a tuition grant and an opportunity to present the essay at the NWCU.
