Exciting news to share! Dr. Michael Reid Trice will be presented with the 2008 GOLD Award from his alma mater, Bethany College. This award is presented to a graduate of the last two decades, recognizing their outstanding achievement and service to society. North American Academy of Ecumenists Annual Meeting

 

On September 26 - 28th, the Academy will hold its annual meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel St. Louis—Clayton. The theme is Ecumenical Ecclesiology: One Church of Christ for the Sake of the World. Michael Kinnamon, Peter Bouteneff, David Daniels and Jeffrey Gros will be among the distinguished speakers. "Christian Unity," an Interfaith Religion Special on CBS

CHRISTIAN UNITY, an interfaith religion special, will broadcast Sunday, Sept. 21 on the CBS Television Network. Check your local station for exact time.

Over the centuries Christians have split into many groups, not always on friendly terms. Christian Unity is an ongoing attempt to bring Roman Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals, Eastern and Oriental Orthodox into further dialogue and cooperation. This year The Annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity celebrates its 100th anniversary in this country. The special is produced with the cooperation of The National Council of Churches, The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, The Islamic Society of North American, the Union for Reform Judaism and The New York Board of Rabbis.

Lutheran Ecumenical Representatives Network (LERN)

The LERN network is a group of ELCA clergy and laypeople appointed by their synodical bishops throughout the ELCA.  They are the eyes and ears of ecumenical and inter-religious activity in their synods.  LERN reps meet annually at the National Workshop on Christian Unity and with staff members of the ELCA  Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations Office. These representatives assist in meeting the challenge of the ELCA’s strategic directions to authentically "step forward as a public church, support congregations, assist synods, produce wise and courageous leaders, and deepen and extend our global, ecumenical and interfaith relationships."

A Force More Powerful

Filmmakers Steve York and Miriam Zimmerman and nonviolent conflict experts Peter Ackerman Jack DuVall, make up the creative team behind A Force More Powerful and Bringing Down A Dictator. They began collaborating on projects concerning nonviolent action in 1996. The tremendous response to their work revealed a great, worldwide need for further education on strategic nonviolent conflict. To meet this need, Peter Ackerman and Jack DuVall founded the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict which works to encourage the use of nonviolent civilian-based strategies for defending and extending democratic self-rule and human rights throughout the world.  Read more...
