The Secretary of NCCC sends messages to church leaders
New York, January 8, 2008 – The new general secretary of the National
Council of Churches USA has sent messages to church councils
in Pakistan and Kenya to assure them American churches are
praying for them, and to identify ways the NCC can support
the churches in these violence-torn nations.

NCC Health Task Force
endorses policy reform effort The newly formed NCC Health Task Force has joined with AARP
and others in promoting a
campaign to urge all Americans to seek policies that will
better address the unmet needs of the poor and those who
lack adequate health care coverage. The NCC recently
completed a study in which more than 6000 congregations
reported their own health ministries.

The LERN
network is a group of ELCA clergy and laypeople
appointed by their synodical bishops throughout the ELCA.
They are the eyes and ears of ecumenism in their synods.
LERN reps meet annually at the
National Workshop on Christian Unity and with staff
members of the ELCA Ecumenical and Inter-Religious
Relations Office. These representatives and the LERN
Executive Committee meet the challenge of the ELCA’s
strategic directions to authentically “step forward as a
