Lutheran Ecumenical Representatives Network (LERN)

The LERN network is a group of ELCA clergy and laypeople appointed by their synodical bishops throughout the ELCA.  They are the eyes and ears of ecumenism in their synods.  LERN reps meet annually at the National Workshop on Christian Unity and with staff members of the ELCA  Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations Office. These representatives and the LERN Executive Committee meet the challenge of the ELCA’s strategic directions to authentically “step forward as a public church, support congregations, assist synods, produce wise and courageous leaders, and deepen and extend our... ecumenical relationships.”

2007 National Workshop on Christian Unity in Washington, D.C- Sponsored by the National Association of Ecumenical Officers, this annual event will be from Monday, January 29 to Thursday, February 1, 2007. The Workshop offers ten seminars each day on current ecumenical issues.

Good Bye to one of our LERN Board members:

Dear Rostered Leaders of the Minneapolis Area Synod:

The Rev. Albert L. Neibacher of Eagan died January 6, 2007, at the age of 68. We entrust our brother to the never-ending love of God with thankfulness for his many years of service to the church of Jesus Christ.

Rev. Neibacher was born November 21, 1939, in New York City, NY. He earned both a Master of Divinity and a Master of Sacred Theology degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. He was ordained in 1966. He served as mission developer for Lutheran Church of the Savior, Kalamazoo, MI, before being called as senior pastor of Christ Church Lutheran, Minneapolis, MN. He retired in 2005.

Rev. Neibacher is survived by his wife of 44 years, Millie; children, Sarah, Sean and Al; and four grandchildren, Jake, Emily, Ethan and Lucas. A memorial Eucharist will be held on Sunday, January 21, at 4:00 p.m. at Christ Church Lutheran, 3244 34th Avenue South, Minneapolis. Visitation begins at 2:30 pm, with a reception following the memorial service.

God, the generations rise and pass away before you. You are the

strength of those who labor; you are the rest of the blessed dead. We

rejoice in the company of your saints.

LBW p. 210

In Christ,

Craig E. Johnson

Bishop
