International Day of Prayer for Peace- September 21, 2006 with focus on Latin America.  "Make me an instrument of Your peace"  was the theme chosen for Focus on Europe 2007 attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi. The Decade to Overcome Violence will be challenged to Overcome Violence in Europe with issues like trafficking, Youth, Migration, Violence in Church, etc.

2007 Ecumenical Seminary Essay Contest2007 Ecumenical Seminary Essay Contest - This is the time of year  when seminarians can win a scholarship toward their tuition and an all expense paid trip to the 2007 National Workshop on Christian Unity in Washington, D.C from the office for Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations.  Tell your seminarians to make a contribution!

2007 January Term 2007 January Term "The Ecumenical Church in America in a Globalized World" is the annual course held in Geneva, Switzerland from January 6-20, 2007. Sponsored by the Lutheran World Federation and the ELCA Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations, this course is an excellent opportunity for students currently enrolled in a Masters or Doctoral program relating to theology to learn more about global ecumenism. NEW ELCA Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations  The Office of the Presiding Bishop is inviting Lutherans and people from different denominations to share with us their ecumenical experiences, Your Story.  Look also what others are doing with the Power of Many and what you can do with the Power of One. Of course, write us in the language with which you feel most comfortable!  It's all about Ecumenical Formation.

NEW ELCA Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations- Building Bridges in the Body of Christ is the new resource that has been implemented in our section. Use it in bulletins to assist in the education of parishioners regarding our five communion partners and one interim Eucharistic sharing partner.

Understanding the Roman Catholic Church is the recent resource from Mosaic, ELCA Communications.  This is a great opportunity to develop a better understanding of the Roman Catholic Church, its history and beliefs. Click here to read more.

What is a Conciliar Ecumenism?
National Council of Churches of Christ (NCCC) - The General Assembly of the National Council of Churches and Church World Service is November 7-9, 2006, in Orlando. The meeting won't run smoothly without Young Adult Stewards, ages 18-30.  Many Lutheran young adults applied to be stewards this year!  The application process is closed but if you want to know more about this formative event, read here.
Women in Religion in the 21st Century, October 17-19, 2006. It is the name of the conference that emphasizes the important role that women with different backgrounds and faiths play in Religion in the 21st century. This event will be held for the first time at The Interchurch Center in New York . Read more, check the agenda and register online

Lutheran Ecumenical Representatives Network (LERN)

The LERN network is a group of ELCA clergy and laypeople appointed by their synodical bishops throughout the ELCA.  They are the eyes and ears of ecumenism in their synods.  LERN reps meet annually at the National Workshop on Christian Unity and with staff members of the ELCA  Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations. These representatives and the LERN Executive Committee meet the challenge of the ELCA’s strategic directions to authentically “step forward as a public church, support congregations, assist synods, produce wise and courageous leaders, and deepen and extend our... ecumenical relationships.”

2007 National Workshop on Christian Unity2007 National Workshop on Christian Unity in Washington, D.C-  Sponsored by  the National Association of Ecumenical officers,  this annual event will be from Monday, January 29 to Thursday, February 1, 2007. The Workshop offers ten seminars each day on current ecumenical issues. This event also gathers different denominational networks.
