National Workshop on Christian Unity, San José, California

ELCA Synods and UMC Conferences engage in
Interim Eucharistic Sharing:

On January
8, Bishop John Hopkins of the East Ohio Conference of The
United Methodist Church presided at the 11:00 AM liturgy
at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland.
Bishop Marcus Miller of the Northeastern Ohio Synod
preached. The service made the front page of Cleveland's
largest paper, The Plain Dealer.
- The Virginia Synod and Virginia
Conference of The United Methodist Church will celebrate a
joint Transfiguration service February 26, 5:00 PM, at Bon Air
United Methodist Church in Richmond, VA. Bishop Charlene
Kammerer of the VA United Methodist Conference will
preside at the Eucharist and Bishop James Mauney of the VA
Synod will be the preacher.

The Southeastern, Northeastern and Western Iowa Synods and
the Iowa Conference of The United Methodist Church are
planning a joint service on May 11 at Bethesda Lutheran
Church in Ames, IA. Please, contact the
Southeastern Iowa Synod

Pope Invites Methodists to Lutheran Pact - Pope
Benedict XVI encouraged Methodist leaders on Friday (Dec. 9)
to join a landmark 1999 agreement between Lutherans and the
Vatican that overcame centuries of disagreement on the
nature of salvation. In his first official meeting with
top-ranking officials of the World Methodist Council (WMC),
Benedict urged the council to endorse the Joint Declaration
on the Doctrine of Justification, a 1999 Catholic-Lutheran
accord on how humankind achieves salvation. |

Is One": The Way of Islam by Marston Speight.
Co-sponsored by National Council of Churches, USA. Islamic
Society of North America and Hartford Seminary. The book
was reprinted following 9/11, with a study guide written by
Jack Rock. Upon the Initiative of Muslim leaders the three
sponsoring organizations have come together to encourage
churches throughout the United States to use this book and
it's study guide as an adults education/Sunday school
curriculum.

National Workshop on Christian Unity and with staff
members of the ELCA Ecumenical and Inter-Religious
Relations. These representatives and the LERN Executive
Board meet the challenge of the ELCA’s
strategic directions to authentically “step forward as a
public church, support congregations, assist synods, produce
wise and courageous leaders, and deepen and extend our...
ecumenical relationships.”
