Churches Uniting in Christ (CUIC), known until its rebirth in 2002 as Consultation on Church Union (COCU), is a national movement that seeks to live more intentionally together in Christian unity. One major goal of CUIC is to work together to combat racism. CUIC is made up of ten member church bodies: the African Methodist Episcopal Church, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, The Episcopal Church, the International Council of Community Churches, the Presbyterian Church (USA), the United Church of Christ, the United Methodist Church, and the Moravian Church Northern Province.

The ELCA participates in CUIC as a Partner in Mission and Dialogue. Specifically, this means that we participate in opportunities and efforts to combat racism, and take part in dialogue on ministry. It does not mean that the ELCA is in full communion with all of the member churches of this group.  However, the ELCA does celebrate full communion relationships with four of the members of CUIC; the Presbyterian Church (USA), The Episcopal Church, the United Church of Christ, and   the Moravian Church -Northern Province.  The ELCA is likewise in a period of Interim Eucharistic Sharing with the United Methodist Church.
