Disability Ministries

Called to be a hospitable church for people with disabilities and their families

ELCA Disability Ministries
Disability ministries call upon the body of Christ to be a hospitable church for those who are people living with disabilities and their family members. This church desires that all members participate fully in the church’s three expressions: congregational, synodical and churchwide expressions.

Every person with a disability has a right to be a member of a congregation and to serve in some capacity.

Disability Ministries of the ELCA nurtures inclusive ministry among people with disabilities in the following ways so that:

God’s mission is
INCLUSIVE

Our ministries are "with" people and not ministries "for" or "to" people. How can we look to the talents and gifts that people with disabilities bring to the church? Visit Inclusion to find out more.

Our church is
ACCESSIBLE

Many of our church buildings, meetings and mindsets hinder full access to people with disabilities. How can we adapt our spaces, gatherings and attitudes so that all people can participate fully? Visit Accessibility to find out more.
