women in Peru: Consuelo Trigo de Breiding and María Luz Chirino. Both
are poets, community leaders, and active members of Divine Light
Lutheran Church in Marquez, a shantytown on the outskirts of Lima.
Some of their work has been published previously by Women of the ELCA.
¿Ser Pobre? (To Be Poor?) is a collection of poems by the two women,
and A Thousand Marias contains the story of María Luz Chirino’s
