Kenya - Prayer Ventures
For the church
Merciful God, we thank you for the Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church, its
emphasis on faith formation among members, outreach in new areas, and leadership
development. We praise you for the ministry of women in Bible study and
development of income-generating projects, and for youth ministry in AIDS
education. Guide the church as it seeks to expand its stewardship program amidst
economic constraints.
For current needs
Gracious God, we pray for the people of Kenya as they struggle with issues of
urbanization, unemployment, and difficult economic circumstances. Grant wisdom
and courage to those who work to strengthen the economy and preserve natural
resources. May clean water, adequate food and shelter, and education be
available to all.
For those serving
Great and loving God, we ask for wisdom and compassion for all who serve in the
Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church--pastors, evangelists, the bishop, head office
personnel, and missionaries. Thank you for their commitment to Christ and the
church. Refresh their spirits, grant strength and joy as they work together in
the name of Christ.
For companion relationships
God of compassion, we give thanks for the Companion Synod Program of the ELCA in
which ELCA synods develop personal relationships with global Christian
neighbors. We pray especially for the Allegheny Synod and the Kenya Evangelical
Lutheran Church as they deepen their friendship through prayer, communication,
and visits. May the relationship grow in mutuality and commitment to God's
mission as they discover and enjoy each others gifts.
For church leadership
God of grace, you call many to servant leadership. Thank you for Bishop
Zachariah Kahuthu of the Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church and for his energetic
efforts to strengthen discipleship in the church. We pray for the staff members
of the head office who work diligently on behalf of the KELC, and for the
seminary students who are preparing for pastoral leadership. May your love shine
forth in them.
For open hearts
God our Creator, you make all people part of your family. You give all that is
good in our lives and fill us with your everlasting love. Bless us as we learn
more about our sisters and brothers in Kenya. Help us to embrace our common
blessing in serving you. Open our eyes to the gifts you give us in each other.
Enable us to build bridges between our cultures and our churches. We ask these
things in the name we name together, your precious Son, Jesus Christ.
