Katherine Koob (U.S. diplomatic service) This Iowa native and Wartburg College
graduate's varied career included being a parish worker, public school teacher and
newspaper drama critic. She was employed by the National Council of Churches of Christ at
the United Nations before joining the U.S. International Communication Agency as a Foreign
Service Information Officer in 1969. She served in West Africa (Ivory Coast and Upper
Volta) and South Central Africa (Zambia), as well as Romania and Iran. In 1981 and 1982,
for more than 14 months, she was held as a hostage by Iran at the U.S. embassy. Retired
from diplomatic service, she serves currently on the staff at Wartburg College. <
