Mildred Winston (college education, women's concerns and church vocations) For 41 years until her death in 1980, Dr. Winston was associated with the higher education work of the Lutheran Church in America (LCA) and its predecessor churches. For many years she was professionally linked with colleagues C.P. Harry, Gould Wickey and Mary Markley. With Dr. Markley she co-authored Going to College (1936). At the birth of the LCA she was named director of placement services for its Board of College Education and Church Vocations, retiring in 1969 as director of the LCA Education Fund. A church pioneer in women's concerns, in 1947 she wrote her second book Women, A Resource in the Church.
