Emmy Christina Carlsson Evald (Woman's Missionary Society work) Mrs. Evald founded the Women's Missionary Society of the Augustana Lutheran Church in 1892 and served as its president until 1935. Her travels took her to mission sites around the world and she wrote nine books about the society. In 1894 she founded and established chapters of the Lutheran Woman's League in Chicago with subsequent additional chapters formed in Philadelphia, New York and Pittsburgh. She was a charter member of the International Suffrage Association, and from 1935-46 she acted as superintendent of the New York Lutheran Home for Women, one of several she helped establish and whose history she recorded in one of her books.
