Niels L. Nielsen, Danish missionary, went to Oklahoma in 1892 to start a mission with the Cherokee people who had survived the "Trail of Tears." Nielsen was sent there after Danish Lutherans were asked by Moravians to continue their American Indian ministry begun in 1842. The ministry continued with the work of Ebenezer Lutheran Church (founded in 1893) and Oaks Indian Center in Oaks, Oklahoma.
